Very good product worth considering July 14, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
These are a very good set of headphones for those who are prepared to spend a little bit of money, probably at the high end of what the average person would be prepared to pay, and at the low end of what a serious audio enthusiast would be expecting, which makes for an excellent compromise.
My first impressions of these is that they are very nice sounding and hopefully this will improve as they break in. Comfortable and very good at blocking out the noise. As others have commented the cable can cause some interference if not restrained, I have used a small bulldog clip as a shirt clip and this has worked fine and removed all interference and distortion from cable flap.
These have offered an immediate improvement in the sound quality to the extent where they are nearly on a par with good quality traditional speakers. What has particularly impressive is how these are able to show up a poor recording. All the minor distortions from cheap recordings or low quality audio rips are audible and therefore it is important to make sure that music is ripped at the highest possible bitrate - it is worth the extra disk space!
Overall I am giving these 5stars as they are comfortable, the sound is very impressive and for a set of audio headphones the price is excellent. Don't be put off by the minor problems that can be caused if the cable flaps, pinning it in place with a small clip (sadly not provided) fixes this instantly.
First Earphones Review July 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Okay I've nothing to judge them against as these are the first (except the ones with my I Pod) earphones I've had and they sound good to me. Was surprised that even though the biggest buds fitted okay, the best sound was with the medium buds. Certainly pays to try them all a few times with different tracks.
Brilliant sound quality, overall product could improve July 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After my old headphones finally died through many years of use, I decided to treat myself to these top of the range Sennheisers. I have owned a few sets of Sennheisers previously and they have never let me down.
Upon first listen I was instantly blown away by the sound quality. The bass response is deep and brilliantly defined if you select the right set of silicon tips (there are 3 sizes supplied). Mids are warm with good instrument separation and treble, whilst not the strong point, is still clear and by no means shabby. I tried playing lots of genres through my iPod from ambient electronica to heavy rock via jazz and classical and these phones can handle pretty much anything you throw at them. The overall sound is extremely well balanced. They're also pretty lightweight and are extremely comfortable to wear. The cables exit the housing at an angle so that they dangle vertically; reducing the stress on the cable joints and helping the phones stay in your ear. They look pretty stylish as well.
There are a few drawbacks. First of all, the cable is not what I would expect from a set of phones in this price range. They feel a bit thin and flimsy, which leads to a high tendency to tangle in your pocket (one of my pet hates). The main cable is only 60cm long (for use with in-line remote controls and arm mounted iPods) with a 1m extension piece. If you don't have a remote or don't do sports then you'll have to put up with having way too much excess cable. A shorter extension piece would have made better sense. The extension socket, whilst of good quality, is very heavy and tends to pull the cable down. I had to steal the clothing clip from a cheaper set of Sennheisers to compensate. The storage case supplied is also completely useless.
I'm willing to overlook all these teething problems though due to the amazing sound quality but a better overall product would have made this a 5 star.
Expensive June 4, 2008 0 out of 13 found this review helpful
Sound quality not particularly outstanding compared to much cheaper earphones. Purchased them because there is an interference problem on my dell laptop, which only gets filtered out by better earphones ( have previously owned 2 different sets of 20 ish pounds earphones that were fine, and some cheaper ones that were not) so presumed these would filter it out - they do not.
In addition the Carry Case is poorly thought out and doesn't hold the earphones very well.
Excellent! But whats with the cable lengths? May 30, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have to agree with "hellodavey's" review. The headphones are excellent! I couldn't help the silly big grin on my face listening to all my music as if it were new again. The bass is warm and clear and doesn't swap the rest of the frequencies. I read reviews that they were well balanced, and they are. Powerful, clear and comfortable. There are SO much fun. That said however, what the hell is with the cable lengths?! I can't see what Sennheiser were trying to achieve in splitting it at that point, leaving you to decide between infuriatingly inches short of iPod in a pocket, or in-line extended to lasso proportions?! I am 6', but still, without the lasso extension cable its even too short to clip a shuffle to my belt! The only suitable time for this cable length would be in winter where I have an inside pocket in my coat to put my iPod in. Such a design blunder. I going to e-mail Sennheiser after this review to vent some frustration and try find out what the hell their thinking was behind this design!
