We're Going on a Bear Hunt

The repetition is excellent, and the discovery of the bear in the cave perfectly timed, with the run 'home' at the end ("We're not going on a bear hunt again!") a good ending. My boy loves the actions, the noises, the words, the bear - in short, just about everything!

I agree with the other reviewers. My son, who has speech problems, came home from nursery chanting parts of this book and I had to ask the staff what it was he was so enthusiastic about. When I got the book I couldn't understand why it wasn't more of a classic, it ought to be on everyone's bookshelf. I am looking forward to introducing my toddler to it - but maybe I should get a board version as my son will probably not part with his copy!

I am a teacher of children with severe learning difficulties and I have been featuring this book in our literacy hour all through the last term. We have developed props to enhance the sounds and visual effects; such as a dish of water for the 'Splish Splosh', wellies in a tray of wet sand for the 'Squelch Squerch' and a model of a cave, complete with wet nose, furry ears and 'Two Googly Eyes' for the meeting with the bear. The children's reactions have been brilliant. Those with limited or no speech have been repeating some of the words (even at home). All have responded and joined in well (particularly those with challenging behaviours) and all of the children love the repetitive nature of the words and the exciting ending. An obsolutely brilliant book and hard to replace for this term's featured story.

Love it! My kids love it! My wife loves it! I've had to read it to the kids over and over again (you know the feeling). But the weird thing is I still enjoy it just as much every time I read it. Just watch your kids faces as you get to the exciting bit...
