Product Description User friendliness and comfort of use come together in the slimline YP-U3JQB MP3 player from Samsung! Compatible with different audio formats (including MP3 and OGG), this ultra compact and lightweight player has a blue LED indicator and a retractable USB port that doesn?t hinder its elegance or style. In order to make your listening experience as comfortable as possible, the YP-U3JQB comes with an equaliser with 12 predefined modes, a customisable mode and a 4-mode 3D DNSE sound function. Its blue OLED screen gives you all the information you need about the track being played, and displays ID3 tags. It even has a host of touch buttons that literally melt into the body of the player, allowing you to navigate through its functions with ease. The YP-U3JQB is equally equipped with a useful voice recording function, so you can record vocal memos, and an RDS FM tuner that lets you enjoy your favourite radio stations. Finally, its internal battery lets you listen to non-stop music from your player on one single recharge, giving you nothing but musical pleasure!

Attractive versatile player July 11, 2008 I really like this stylish little player, although there are some snags. The controls, being touch-sensitive, are a little tricky at first, but I soon got used to them. You need to use the key-lock all the time to avoid key errors, and here's a slight irritation - if you touch a button with the key-lock on, there's a beep, so when I had it in my pocket, key-locked, there was a series of beeps whenever the keys touched anything. Fortunately you can turn the beep off in the Settings menus. The sound quality is good with the supplied earphones, although the ear fit isn't perfect for me. I think most people though have their own favourite headphones and don't tend to use the "free" ones. The player supports OGG format which is critical for me as a Linux user. However the machine is MTA rather than UMS, so drag-and-drop doesn't work. I guess this was because they wanted to support copy-protected downloads. I use Suse 10.3, and once I'd installed the library for MTA tools I found that files on the player can be directly managed though Amarok, so no problems. (You can also use the MTA tools in command-line mode, but you have to be careful with this - once I managed to delete all tracks inadvertently!) I really like the display (which to my eye is blue!) and the Settings allow a range of adjustments including an equaliser, a range of sound stage presets, A-B repeat, sleep timer, auto power-off and others. The radio is good, but as with most of these players the headphone cord is the antenna and so needs to be fully extended if the signal is weak. The inbuilt voice recorder is more handy than I expected it to be and great for storing quick notes (e.g. to store prices of items when browsing shops, shopping lists). The little "quick-start" manual provided is poor (it doesn't even mention the radio!), but all the controls are pretty standard and obvious so that's not a big drawback. There is also a .pdf manual on a mini-CD, but I haven't bothered to look at that since I wasn't using the supplied software. All in all, I really like it and it's small and light enough to be always with me.
Great compatibility for non-Windows users June 1, 2008 I am very happy with this gadget. I wanted a music player I can use with either Windows or my preferred Ubuntu Linux machine, and this does the trick nicely. It plays ogg vorbis (along with the other usual suspects). This device uses the MTP protocol to communicate with the host system. This is now supported on Linux. I'm using the RhythmBox software that comes with Ubuntu/GNOME. Note that you have to explicitly enable the MTP plug-in.
Anyway, very happy. Good sound, good features, bargain price!
Perfect little number May 8, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Personally I couldn't be happier with this player. I've been holding off for some months on buying one, looking for just the right set of features: Small, USB-chargeable, Drag-&-drop filesystem, long-life, decent feature set, and a decent price.
So far I've been pleasantly impressed on every score. Some previous reviews gave me cause for concern, but at 35 I thought it was worth the risk.
The touch-sensitive buttons are indeed sensitive. There is, however, a HOLD SWITCH for anyone engaged in physical activity, making this a non-issue.
My unit was delivered with the latest firmware (v1.13), and drag-&-drop file management seems fine via USB. Also, the player intuitively and intelligently organises the media according to artist, album, genre, playlist etc, which was a pleasant surprise.
Perhaps most impressive of all is the extensive Settings menu - this is a highly customisable unit, for those who are so inclined. There is a dearth of features for adjusting the EQ (manual or preset), 3D, Bass Enhancement etc, and plenty of useful other bits besides. Having a button with a user-customisable function was a particularly nice surprise :-)
I've had no problems at all with the FM radio. You can adjust the sensitivity of the Auto-Preset seeker to account for being in a high- or low-signal area, and it's been much more reliable so far than most earphone-aerial radios I've had.
Finally, it does look ace. Subtle but stylish, in my opinion. Nice blue-glowing screen, brushed black finish, and small & light enough to clip to anything without a fuss. Why anyone would pay nearly twice as much for an iPod Shuffle - with all the inherent limitations - is beyond me.
If I had to criticise I'd pick on the included earphones, which sound great but are merely adequate for comfort - but then given the price of the unit as a whole, this is nit-picking in the extreme. I'm really, really pleased with this purchase!

Having had a less expensive model that would only play from the 1st song and you had to scroll through all songs to find the one you wanted this is fantastic! Able to scroll through albums reduces a significant search time. Touch buttons took a little getting use to. Sound's great, looks good. Added bonus's for me - fairly good radio reception for somewhere out in the sticks! And also has built in USB connection (I did eventually stop looking for the lead when I read the instructions - doh!) so no need to search for that elusive lead amongst all the others. Found the software really easy to use, but did put them into the order I wanted before downloading - software puts songs into alphabetical order - I did read someone else's review on this so had advance warning! So can now keep on walking with that happy beat.
