| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, the second LP from Forest Gate-bred singer/musician Ben Drew, will be a surprise for anyone who spent meaningful time with his 2006 debut Who Needs Actions When You’ve Got Words. That album cast him as a potty-mouthed rapper, threatening to stab you with a biro over choppy acoustic guitar. Now, following a quick makeover, he re-emerges as blue-eyed soul singer, fronting a suite of bittersweet love songs steeped in vintage Stax and Motown. What might seem a rushed rebranding makes more sense if you know a little about Drew's creative drive, though; obsessed with cinema and narrative, Plan B is a storyteller at heart, and â¦Strickland Banks' songs trace a tale through the London underworld, Drew playing a soul singer from the East End jailed for a crime he didn’t commit. It's a concept that works, thanks largely to Drew’s voice--surprisingly strong, and more than capable of handling everything from upbeat Northern soul to fraught numbers like "Welcome To Hell". The narrative never overwhelms the quality of the songs, though, and for anyone disappointed such an impressively angry man has gone a bit Paolo Nutini on us, there's the occasional rap delivered with anger more savage for its infrequent deployment. –-Louis Pattison

A breeze September 7, 2010 K. Glover I found this album stunning, not my usual choice of style but its just lovely, thats all
Different - And all the better for it. September 6, 2010 Chris L (UK) I am not usually a fan of this sort of music and to be honest it is a blend of two genres I do not usually play (Motown and Rap) that often. However it really is a refreshing combination and the whole album just gels. I think anyone who appreciates new, good music rather than a lot of the manufactured pop that is floating around will love this and it is certainly well worth a listen.
Good Voice,Weak Album! September 6, 2010 L. Mateus (SW London) I bought the album as I found Ben's voice interesting and a couple of songs on the album I found to be particularly catchy. In hindsight I shouldn't have gone to the expense of buying the album as it was only 2 of the songs I liked to begin with that were any good the rest of the songs were mediocre.Actually from having listened to the whole album in one sitting I found myself feeling quite depressed afterwards. It might be a mix of Ben's voice along with the choice of songs....I'm not sure:but I haven't listened to the album after that and have sold it on since.
I think this cd and artist is like Marmite: you either love it or hate it.For me however, just like Marmite I didn't like it!
Can't stop listening! September 5, 2010 confusedpunter (UK) I shouldn't like this but I do like a range of music and . . . this is so varied I can't stop playing it.
I understand what Plan B means by a story telling. Not an original story but each song tells a story of its own and is part of a wider story.
PLAN B THE DEFAMATION OF STRICKLAND BANKS September 3, 2010 SILVIA WORTH EVERY PENNY, REFRESHING NEW SOUND, GREAT FOR THE CAR WITH SOME FANTASTIC UP BEAT SOUNDS AS WELL AS SOME DEEP SING A LONG TUNES. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED
