Amazon.co.uk Review
Kasabian arrived with a bang and a half early this century, brandishing a slew of ever more dynamite singles and a rigorously assembled debut album that straddled dancefloors and festival fields with monumental ease and a glint in its bloodshot eyes. It was all very post-Xtrmntr, whilst avoiding much of the seriousness that could have entailed. Whether anyone expected them to chase Oasis’ coat-tails with such keenness is by the by now; they have since been ordained as an anthemic rock colossus of the UK rock scene. That has almost certainly gone to their heads and as years and albums pass they move further away from their original chemical reaction and into attempting to elbow their way onto the table of some of the greats--early Pink Floyd (the well meaning, but slightly aimless "Swarfiga"), The Kinks (the blatant "Thick As Thieves", though it doesn’t take much to imagine Noel Gallgher bashing it out either) and The Rolling Stones ("Happiness", see also Primal Scream). West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum finds them in an exploratory mood even if it struggles to lift off like either their own early material or the greats they aspire to emulate. Still, "Fast Fuse" is a rabid burst of tinny psychedelic punk and "Vlad The Impaler" intriguingly dark and electric. Not as weird or as wired as they purport to be, but given the kind of brain-numbing predictability normally peddled by bands at their level, we should be grateful for the ambition of this album. --James Berry

3 out of 5 stars Kasabian...slightly dull album   February 4, 2010

I first heard this latest offering from Kasabian about five months ago and I was not that impressed at the time and in fact checked out reviews and was surprised at the fairly high ratings that the album received, I recently bought the CD for just under a fiver (off Amazon) because it was cheap and I see that some other outlets are also selling the CD fairly cheaply which must tell you something..it's not that good!. Whilst looking at the reviews I was also surprised to find that this album is rated slightly higher than their previous effort Empire which I think is a better album but neither Empire or this offering come close to their debut which is a great album. This CD has some really dull, dreary and unmusical moments on it and I think the success of this album is partly due to their performances throughout the summer of '09 (Glastonbury being a prime example)and the track 'Fire' was played constantly last summer and it's a good number but only one of about five tracks that impress me. As I said on first listening I was not that impressed and further listening just highlights my original thoughts...tracks 6,9 and 12 are not of a standard I would expect from Kasabian and fair enough there are some reasonable offerings on this CD but I believe that like the Editors (last CD not bad but not great) Kasabian are suffering from the 'third album syndrome'.

Lets hope that their next album can live up to their first offering because this CD is quite inferior to that fantastic album. I appreciate that not every band can rise to the dizzy heights of previous material but I am slightly disappointed with this latest CD from Kasabian.

5 out of 5 stars A welcome return to form!   January 29, 2010

The first Kasabian album was a classic (one of the best albums of the last decade), but the (difficult) 2nd one "Empire" was a disappointment. This album is a return to the good times and is superb. "Where did all the love go" has got to be one of the best and most catchy songs in recent years. This collection of genius is highly recommended for fans and new-comers alike.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He loves Kasabian and is in to this type of music. He doesn't like it when bands go commercial and start getting number 1's in the pop charts and said that this album is great as it is unique and Kasabian have still kept true to their roots with this album.

3 out of 5 stars Pricing madness   December 23, 2009

I have no comment about the music - but I just had to say how stupid it is that the digital download of this album is *more expensive* than the physical CD.

3 out of 5 stars Kasabian are back!   December 2, 2009

Having never been a huge fan of Kasabian, only owning the MP3's of their bigger hits like Club Foot and Empire. However after hearing Fire and Where did all the love go, I thought I'd push out the boat and by the album in all in circularness.

And was atcually mildly surprised. Aside from Fire and Where did all the love go, other tracks like Underdog and Fast Fuse all stand out as some of the bands best work yet.

I'd certainly recommend this to anyone who is a big fan, although it is maybe kinda out there for anyone who hasn't sampled any of thier work before.

Overall, 3 stars for many very catchy tracks to fill the Ipod...
