Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Success came fast for The Killers, maybe too fast. The impossibly hooky “Mr Brightside” from their debut, coupled with faultless synth anthem “Somebody Told Me”, turned them into the most ubiquitous band in the world overnight and had them batting away Glastonbury headline offers before the Hot Fuss campaign was even over. Sam's Town followed all too quickly, trying to stylistically catch up with their status as stadium rock giants in waiting, but like their debut was really only carried by a couple of strong singles. Which would make this the perfect--or necessary--time to deliver the masterpiece the world expects. By shamelessly cherry-plundering the number 1 acts of the 80s not only have they managed to dramatically shunt the concept of filler from the record, but every track acts like it's performing last on Top Of The Pops circa 1987. Result. From the sparkling Pet Shop Boys obedience of “Human” to the massive Human League via Starship chorus of “Spaceman”, the Paul Simon’s Graceland as done by Talking Heads on “This Is Your Life” to the bang-on Cure desolation of “Goodnight, Travel Well” they barely put a foot wrong, though the saxophone an’ steel drum funk of “Joy Ride” does momentarily test the patience. Their mission to become the next U2 continues apace and infiltrates most nooks on Day & Age, see especially Brandon’s very best Bono on “A Dustland Fairytale” and “This Is Your Life”. Third time lucky--they really do come very close to that masterpiece. --James Berry

4 out of 5 stars Excellent album, takes a while to appreciate   December 1, 2008
The Killers have been my favourite band since Hot Fuss. So while I may be biased I was actually nervous they would not live up to Sam's town and Hot Fuss. On first listening to Day and Age I was happy with the tracks I had heard but unsure of the rest. After playing it 4-5 more times I think its excellent and moves the Killers music on. Anyone who likes the Killers previous material will like this album IMHO.

5 out of 5 stars Want the latest iPod? Here's how to get it for a fiver   December 1, 2008

Christmas is coming so save your cash! Why purchase something you can get for a fiver.

Go to YourIpod.co.cc and sign up. Complete ONE offer - I would recommend Gala Bingo (you know, the one Sharon Osborne advertises for on tv),as this is cheap and fun (and you might win some money in the process!)

If you really don't want to spend, there is a free Lovefilm trial.

All companies are well known so there is no risk involved- give it a go! I got my iPod and many other things this way, so don't miss out.

I was a sceptic once but now I am SO glad I gave it a chance. B8C approved this system on their Newsnight programme a while back.

Many items to choose from and they send your gift Free of charge.

1 out of 5 stars It's really awful. I am so thoroughly disappointed   December 1, 2008

It seems that I am the only one to give this album a negative review.
I can barely bring myself to listen to the end of the CD to pass full judgement.
It's over produced and very pop-py - aimed perhaps at commercial radio stations and inevitable club-remixes.
If you were hoping for anything like the talent and enthusiasm found on Hot Fuss, you too are going to be sorely disappointed. Sam's Town wasn't too bad, and Sawdust was pretty good if a little raw (though that was the intention). None of these tracks are destined to be chanted and bounced to at concerts, so book yourself in to the seated section and take a good book. As for being released on RockBand... not going to happen! Yawnsville here I come.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!   December 1, 2008

The Killers have been my favorite band since they burst onto the scene with Hot Fuss and i have looked at the output with great ernest ever since. On 'Day and Age' they have created an album that will still be ringing in your ears long after you have finished listening.

On opener, 'Losing Touch' they have created an epic opener with a chorus that grabs your attention and a ending that is driven by an incredible guitar piece by Dave Keuning. A simply majestic opener.

Lead single 'Human' follows and is a pure pop gem from the killers. A great return to the synthesizer which sounds like a 1980's pop song but with a modern twist.

Next single 'Spaceman' quickens the pace of the album and it is a true Killers classic. A great chorus and a pounding verse means it is sure to be a brilliant song when performed live. Classic.

'Joy Ride' is an unexpected tune. It has a funky groove to it and it's not typical killers sound but turns out to be a classic track with a really catchy chorus and imaginative lyrics.

'A Dustland Fairytale' slows the album down but has a 'lighters aloft' feel to it as the song gradually builds to an epic ending. Once again, with some rather brilliant lyrics.

'This Is Your Life' uses the bass to once again drive the song and it is perhaps the worst song on the album but is still worth many listens.

'I Can't Stay' gets things back on track with an acoustic guitar and classic Killers chorus and middle 8. Brilliant.

'Neon Tiger' is a glam rock power song which was written after the Killers tried to write like MGMT. It has brilliant verses and choruses which will make for a good song live even if it does have strange lyrics.

'The World We Live In' is a synth rock driven epic song. Stunning.

'Goodnight Travel Well' rounds things up perfectly with an epic feel to it.

All in all, the Killers have delivered for the forth time in a row. Buy the album and listen to something that will cater for al your moods!

3 out of 5 stars I'm not sure about this - so far.   December 1, 2008

First of all I love the first two Killers albums (and also loved Sawdust)- punchy rock tracks full of originality, great lyrics, great singer, great drummer and two great guitarists. Therefore I was very much waiting with anticipation this release. Unfortunately after several listens I'm not sure I like their new direction. Not one song has really grabbed me yet in the same way "Jenny" "Read My Mind" or "When You Were Young" did. I really hope this is a grower cos so far my jury is out.
