5 out of 5 stars for some reason it says i gave 5 stars.NO ITS ONE STAR.   March 25, 2007

well i guess i will be the only one who can see the misguided info in this "ramblings of an action hero"

come on!
this is another bunch of mashed up info the author has no real understanding of,talk is cheap.
he is erles boy so you know everything he says is flawed, watch some of erles vids and you will see he contradicts himself all the time.

i cant stress enough,if you want this kind of info go buy erles books and vids[but i wouldnt bother realy as he changes his mind on taiji aspects every few dvds]
all the info has come from the great ape himself and the monkey just mixes it up and calls it his own.

very dissapointed as i had heard great things about brecher but as soon as you look into his ramblings you can see his info is full of holes.

how the hell can someone so stiff attempt to educate people on taiji!
be honest now....people read these reviews and spend good money on this shysters info.

like the great ape everything is done with aggression, you can see a mile off this guy is stiff and has no understanding of internal body mechanics.

you can bend wire, its very flexible/yet wire is used to keep up super structure bridges...go figure

all his books etc should be put in the fiction section.

1 out of 5 stars Written by Erle Montaigue   March 22, 2007

I was really thrilled to find out that "Paul Brecher" is just Erle Montaigue's pen-name and not a separate person at all.

Being a fan of Erle's mad mad throw-all-the-rules away approach to Karate, I was just drooling to read this book.

Sadly it was a bit lame. Well, very lame really. Gone are the improbable anecdotes and humor we associate with Australia's least likely Karate Guru. Instead we get rather dry narrative about the history of Taiji as seen by Erle Montaigue. Who cares about Taiji? And why did the history sound so false?

1 out of 5 stars Who is this Montaigue turkey?   March 22, 2007
1 out of 4 found this review helpful

Paul Boner and his owner Montaigue have fabricated a Taiji story here that beggars belief. It is totally fabricated and bears no resemblance to recorded Chinese history.

This Montaigue turkey seems desperate to re-write history in order to portray himself as some Taiji master but it fails to sound convincing despite Boner's desperate attempts to accommodate his owner.

5 out of 5 stars Tai Chi' is a way of life, not a phase. Invaluable reading.   December 12, 2000

The only way you'll learn Tai Chi' is from a teacher! I don't care how good or how many pictures there are in a book, as a new student myself studying under one of Paul Brechers' students, those trying to learn it will agree with me. Paul's book has so much information on how to understand the changes and the new phenomenon which occur inside your body while learning this Art, that you will keep re-reading this book and learn something every time you do. The way Paul has written this book is quite different. The same book is geared for all people wanting to learn this ancient martial art, from Beginner through Intermediate to Advanced. After nearly one year of studying this style, and also having studied Ninjitsu previously, the theory behind the original Tai Chi' form is truly frightning. If you are interested in learning this for real, you need to read this book to understand why you feel the things you do while practicing. The Old Yang Style Long Form will not only take you to a spiritually higher place and make you a formidable martial artist, but it will make you a happier and healthier person along the way.

5 out of 5 stars A good reference for all of the important taichi principles   May 5, 2000
8 out of 9 found this review helpful

I've given this book five stars mainly for the stress it applies to the correct integration of all of the taichi principles into the practitioners everyday pratice. Explanations are given for how each principle applies to beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Even if you have a good teacher it is still difficult to remember all of the principles that you must apply during all of your forms - you can just keep going back to this book to refresh your memory. In addition, the book stresses the martial nature of taichi which is often overlooked. Even though the book refers to the 'Old Yang' style of taichi (more martially oriented than more recent 'Yang' flavours), practitioners of any style will be able to benefit because the principles are always the same - I myself am studying the Chen style. The book begins with some history of taichi and a nice and concise explanation of what health and fitness benefits you'll gain with practice. If you're looking for a comprehensive study of taichi, don't buy this book. If you're looking for a book that you'll keep gaining from during your taichi studies, do buy it.
