good story January 22, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
this is the first Lyn Andrews book that i have read , and was suprised at how good the story was . the O 'LEREY famiy are struggling to make ends meet , and it is left more or less up to the daughter tessa to make things right , then her mom dies and she becomes friends with elizabeth , whos parents are considered better than others becuase they run the local corner shop. the story follows these two girls over the years from young teenagers to married women , and all the time the story just got better and better !. i will definatly be reading more of lyn andrews and recommend it to you.
We have never had it so good October 21, 2002 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
As you sit down with your mug of tea a something nice to eat and pick up this book, you will soon be overcome with guilt.Lyn Andrews descriptions of the hardship and utter poverty of the O'Leary family are fantastic, and how the resedents of the street band together even when thay are little better off makes you think would people be so kind today? The story follow the friendship of Tessa and Elizabeth and there two differant strugles with life, for Tessa just to survive and keep the family going when her mother can no longer do it and for Elizabeth to escape the hold her snob of a mother has and to live her own life. This is Lyn Andrews at her best, and it sure makes me glad that i was not born then.
