A story about loves lost and found and grandfather's mill. October 10, 2001

This book kept me awake well into the night with it's roller coaster story line and the twists and turns of the plot. It was quite un-put-downable!
The main character, Emma Forrest, is strong and resilliant, she has to be to withstand all that life has to throw at her - the laughter and the tears. There are the hardships and worries of living in a city during wartime. The joys of new found love and children. The sadnesses found within a mismatched marriage and the death of family and friends.
Running through the book is an undercurrent of disappointment from Emma's father and the need to keep the mill in the family. All of which influences a lot of Emma's decisions.
This book really gives you an insight into Lincolnshire life of 60 years ago, with all it's quaint customs and practices.
