Anyone reading this is probably already well acquainted with Rambling Syd, Julian and Sandy, J Peasemold Gruntfuttock and the other creations of writers Barry Took and Marty Feldman. Like me, you've probably already got some (if not all) of the previous 12 volumes. If so, then you'll want to know whether it's worth spending your...(money)...on another 4 episodes. The cynics will suspect that with 52 of the original 66 episodes already released we've got past the 'best of' and are now getting the 'rest of' Round the Horne. This isn't entirely true and there is much to commend this latest release. Volume 13 gives us 4 episodes from the previously neglected second series, originally broadcast in 1966. Took and Feldman were by now in full stride and the characters they created, familiar to actors and audience alike, developed naturally, pushing the barriers of acceptbility further and further as they went on. The 'Seamus Android Show' is a welcome innovation of this 1966 series with such guests as 'Barbara Cartload' and 'Zsa Zsa Poltergeist'. Kenneth Horne Master Spy gets to tackle such thorny problems as the disappearance of Big Ben and (remember this is 1966) the theft of the World Cup. Gruntfuttock turns escapologist and Jules and Sandy demonstrate their powers of telepathy. My verdict?- Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Wiliams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and Bill Pertwee probably had 'their finest hour' in the 1967 Series (Volumes 2, 3, 6 and 7) but this one is a classic in its own right and is definitely better than the earliest episodes. If you're collecting the whole series then you've just got to have it! BONA!
