A little dated, but still good August 28, 2008 Some of the jokes are a little dated (the one about the gay pilots confused me; how is that bit funny?), but mostly the routine stands up to scrutiny. The sequence about the cats is one of the funniest in stand-up.
I'm not a connoisseur, but I don't think Davies' delivery is very good. I think he's much better in panel shows, e.g. his continued spot on QI, than live stand-up. His jokes are, while very well-written, quite evidently well-rehearsed and edited before the show (although his delivery is MUCH better than the robotic parrotings of Jimmy Carr).
I'd say if you're a fan of Alan Davies or interested in 90s Comedy, give it a shot.
Funny almost beyond belief! November 1, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a truly hilarious show. The section about the cats, the pigeon and the mouse never fails to have me in tears of laughter. And anyone who ever rode an old FS50 will know EXACTLY what he's talking about - 49cc of mayhem !!! Truly worth adding to your comedy collection. Brilliant - even for us whingin' Poms (Buy the dvd to understand that)

There are few things worse than a comedian with a script...and Alan Davies is certainly not a comedian with a script!
I've watched this routine more times than I care to count, and still I'm laughing. Alan is simply a comedian of formidable talent and, if you haven't seen this yet, I strongly recommend this as one stand-up act that you'll enjoy over-and-over again.
Just as good... July 11, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The DVD description is right, If you like the TV Alan you'll love the live Alan, and if you don't like the TV Alan, you'll love the live Alan even more, The persona you see on QI and Johnathan Creek is definatly tweaked to suit a specific audience, wheras the the live Alan is all real, and all funny. A lot like Jeff Green in the types of jokes he tells and in the delivery, but with many topics such as ice skating at the Olympics and keeping his cats under conrol. A highly recomended DVD, Top of my collection PS, I think he was rather drunk when filming this.
Absolute must have! March 7, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is one of the greatest stand-up routines of all time. Much better than his earlier "Live at the Lyric", it's one hilarious anecdote after another. Not as blue as Frank Skinner; not as surreal as Eddie Izzard; not as contrived as Jasper Carrott; just very VERY funny. Some of the themes are dated now, but this doesn't detract from the humour. Alan's interaction with the audience is also spot-on - whilst he is also a great actor, this DVD just reminds us what a shame it is that he no longer has any plans to tour (though you can check www.fansofalandavies.co.uk to see if he changes his mind)! In the meantime, buy the DVD, unplug the phone, pour yourself a drink, put your feet up, and prepare to laugh yourself silly. ENJOY!!!
