| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Malorie Blackman is a fine, award-winning author whose work is always inclined to provoke debate amongst her readers, and indeed her peers. With Noughts and Crosses she surpasses expectation not only with her subject matter, but with the execution of a stimulating and provocative plot line that often leaves the reader chilled to the bone. Sephy and Callum have been best friends since childhood, and now they are older and they realise they want more from each other. But the harsh realities of lives lived in a segregated society are beginning to take their toll: Callum is a nought--a second-class citizen in a world dominated by the Crosses--and Sephy is a Cross, and the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the country. The barriers they would have to cross to be together at first seem little more than minor obstacles to the two idealistic teenagers, but soon those barriers threaten not only their friendship but their lives. Noughts and Crosses is written with the passion of an author who has a personal message about the perception of the past, present and future, and Blackman has used the clever device of turning preconceived ideas of racial prejudice upside down to make sure that her point is well and truly made. Deeply disturbing and totally absorbing this novel is intriguing from the outset, with a shocking climax that packs an unforgettable punch. (Age 11 and over) --Susan Harrison

A must have book November 19, 2008 This is definetly one of the best books that i have ever read. i wasn't sure about reading it in the first place, as when i read the blurb, it seemed a bit wierd and i didn't really understand it.Also it seemed more like an adults book too me,but i am 15 and after the first chapter i really enjoyed it.
However, i hate a book with a sad ending, and this was without a doubt one of those books. It left me crying for ages after i'd read the last page, i just couldn't believe how it ended. I just kept thinking "no, it won't happen". (you'll see what i mean if you read the book). Im still debating over whether or not i should read the next one, because i really don't know how the stroy can continue. but i still say that this is an excellent book to read. but beware becuase it is a real tearjerker!
amazing November 14, 2008 Anyone and everyone should read this book, it is very thought provoking and at times disturbing, i'm 18 and not ashamed to say that i absolutely sobbed my heart out at the end. I read it in one go, as i could not put it down. I would recommend anyone to read this book as it will blow your mind.
446 pages of utter brilliance November 5, 2008 This book has to be one of the most powerful I have ever read. It highlights the of topic racism, but reversed in a parallel world. The characters are beautifully developed and the ending had me almost screaming and in tears. If you have not read it, please buy it.
I was young when I read this book, aged about 11 and there are a few bits which could be...unsafe for extremely young children (e.g. 9 years old). But I was fine. And if your children are mature it should be ok.
should be read by everyone! October 25, 2008 It is several years since I finished reading this trilogy, but I genuinely believe that this book ought to be the one book everyone should read. It's message is incredibly powerful, and story ridiculously gripping! Go on, buy it, read it, learn from it.
One of the most emotional books ever September 30, 2008 I remember when I first picked this up in my school library, having heard from others it was a good read. I didn't know at the time that it was to become one of my favourite books ever. By the time, I reached the end of it, tears were pouring like Niagra Falls (James Blunt on the radio didn't help either). No book had ever made me cry before as much as Noughts and Crosses and I believe that Malorie Blackman was trying to tell us all that, if it were the other way around for black and white people (reversal of roles) would it really be any different than it is now? I also went to see the play by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Christmas and I think I will remember the performance for as long as I live.
If you want a thrilling read that keeps you on your toes right until the end and that is well balanced with emotion, politics and morality, I suggest you consider Noughts and Crosses.
