Product Description At the bottom of the sea, in the wreck of a floating radio station, a lost recording has been discovered. After careful restoration, it is played for the first time - to reveal something incredible. It is the voice of the Doctor, broadcasting from Radio Bravo in 1966.

doctor who dead air July 28, 2010 Janet M. Thorpe enjoyed it another alternate ending on this one he didn't say "I don't want to go"
Vocal dexterity engaging July 12, 2010 Tavia The ultra talented Tennant does almost all the voices very convincingly in this clever, engaging and slightly sad story. However, he sounds like he has a cold when doing the Doctor's voice. And frankly that's only a minor quibble with a story that does what Doctor Who does best: take the listener back to another time and create genuine empathy for the characters caught up by chance in alien cruelties.
Dead uninvolving July 8, 2010 Captain Pugwash (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lots of praise for the final original audio story for David Tennant's Tenth Doctor in these reviews, however I wasn't so sure; I found Tennant's verbal tics more irksome than ever and after seeing Matt Smith make the role his own so comprehensively it seems somehow wrong to hear Tennant's portrayal again. I have no problem with audio stories featuring previous incarnations of the Time Lord, however I think I need a bit more time to have elapsed before I'm ready to hear DT's constant pop culture references and adoring endorsements of the indomitability of the human race again.
The story is split into two episodes over one disc; the first half introduces the situation and the alien menace 'The Hush', which put me in mind of 2007 TV serial 'Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead', with its invisible threat lurking in the shadows. The second episode is more in the style of classic Doctor Who 'base under siege' stories; The Doctor fighting to contain The Hush and seeing his companions on the pirate radio ship being relentlessly picked off, one by one.
With the potential to be a haunting and atmospheric audio swansong for the Tenth Doctor, this is in fact a bit of a damp squib, and although it picks up somewhat by the second half I would definitely rate it as an indifferent entry in the usually excellent BBC range.
Nothing but praise really! June 7, 2010 S. Shephard (Wiltshire, UK) Dead Air is a bit of a break with tradition from the usual format of DW audiobooks, and it works brilliantly!
Rather than David Tennant reading the narrative as himself and then voicing the characters; the story is conveyed personally by the Doctor allowing for some interesting plot devices and offers a bit of a different perspective. It's also a bit shorter than most of the other audiobooks, but that's fine; it's long enough to tell the story and that's what matters!
The story itself is interesting too; plenty of plot twists and suspense (as you would expect) and a nice bit of back story for the Doctor, but it's also quite unexpectedly unnerving at times! There are certainly parts that haunted me a little after listening, keen-eared listeners might also note the very subtle changes that Tennant adds to certain parts (you'll know which ones when you listen) which really add to the eerie atmosphere.
David Tennant is, as always, and excellent storyteller. He manages to capture the beautifully written stream-of-conciousness style, and his voices for the other characters always raise a bit of a smile (particularly Tommo's husky monotone :P).
Basically, it's well worth a listen.
Great gift for the Dr. Who fan May 26, 2010 Mark A. Laus (Grosse Pointe, MI USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a gift for my wife, a huge Dr. Who fan. Buying directly from U.K./BBC sometimes scores you items w/ slightly different content [from that released in U.S.- drat those copyright laws), or items not available in U.S. at all. My wife loves the audio books, and this item helps round out her collection.
