While the cover of this CD states "simple meditations for everyday life derived from the Buddhist Tradition" about the only word that applies to this incredibly short compact disc is simple.
There is little more than a body scan for muscular tension followed by a meditation on the breath contained within. These techniques can be found in a multitude of other meditation sources to include the author's own New Meditation Handbook audio book. Essentially, just two tracks were taken from that repetitive and preachy product, re-read by a different speaker, and are presented here as something new. Additionally, the dry and cold presentation can become quite tiresome after repeated listenings. The length of this CD makes it a really bad buy for the money.
Skip this over-simplified and over-priced title and get something from a mainstream Buddhist author instead, including Dalai Lama approved sources such as GUIDED MEDITATIONS ON THE STAGES OF THE PATH by Thubten Chodron. Not only is there an excellent book provided, which thoroughly explains the benefits of meditation, it also includes 14+ hours of guided and easy-to-use meditations on an mp3 CD for about the same price and features a forward by the Dalai Lama (also available from Amazon).
Chodron's book is clear and easy to understand and the approximate 40 meditations on the included CD are easy to follow and delivered with extraordinary warmth, combining to yield a most effective outcome. There is enough material here for in-depth learning and practice of genuine Buddhist meditation techniques if you so choose to take advantage of all of its contents, or if a brief meditation experience is all that is required, there are short and basic techniques provided as well.

I found this CD to be excellent in its simplicity and, as with genuine Buddhist endeavour, it contains the essence of the technique without unnecessary elaboration - in this case the meditation practice of using the breath as a vehicle into the meditative state. In my opinion, it is ideal for beginners to meditation and to anyone seeking to calm their mind. Experienced meditators may think it too basic if they are familiar with meditative techniques, however, in my view, it has a Zen like simplicity and works well.
