| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review After My Bloody Valentine had undergone their massive metamorphosis from twee indie-poppers to guitar noiseniks on 1988's Isn't Anything, their eagerly anticipated follow-up was a long time coming. Rumours abounded of massive studio bills, and when the album finally arrived, it listed 18 engineering credits. At times, Loveless is 90 per cent pure studio overmatter--but that doesn't matter. Band leader Kevin Shield's element was the guitar overdub, creating an intoxicating headrush of varispeed, warped, electro-static effects. "To Here Knows When" remains unmatched as an experiment in just how much sonic dissonance a simple pop melody can bear, while Bilinda Butcher sings drowsily as if concussed by the sweet noise. Loveless isn't a case of form over content--the lyrical subject matter of dazed infatuation is perfectly illustrated by the snowblind guitar sound. After this, MBVmoved to Island and remained notoriously unproductive for years, perhaps unsure how to top this. --David Stubbs

Overrated January 4, 2009 Mr. S. Keenan (UK) Reading previous postings I suppose you either like this or loathe it. I am of the latter and not ashamed to admit it. It is overrated, poorly produced, white boy fuzzy pop whinging - in my opinion. It reminds me of the 25 minute whale sing-a-thon captured on Pink Floyd's Echoes. And I'd rather listen to that any day.
The best album ever!!! December 6, 2008 S. A. Risebrow It's just the most perfectly if over produced album ever. It may have taken a long whle to create, but totally worth it. Saw them in the 'isn't anything' tour in 1989 and they were wonderful, yet they transcended everything this year - too hot for my aged ears! This band is one you should listen to - but be careful with that ipod!
BLOODY FRUSTRATING November 26, 2008 David P. Weber (North Fremantle) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I paid for this months ago and have since cancelled it because I'm not convinced it will ever be released. It was getting reviewed in music mags; and then the news broke that there needed to be more "tinkering". When this album was originally released, it delivered an awesome and phenomenal sound-- but it is in need of remastering. So when are you gonna let go, Kevin, and stop torturing your fans?

I first bought this record when it originally came out following rave reviews at the time. I was scratching my head back then, wondering if I'd missed something, 'cos it's just strum-a-long indie pop with weird guitar effects. Best part of two decades later I still think the emperor has no clothes. I think the whining pitch of it's clinging sound is like a needy adolescent: kinda intriguing, but ultimately limited and frustrating, with nothing really to say yet. Talented yes, but I just want people to be wary of the masterpiece spin going on hear.

I love this record, adore it. It is the kind of record you want to live inside, forever. But at the moment i don't care about any of that stuff, i just want to buy it. KEVIN SHIELDS / SONY, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO RELEASE THIS ALBUM?!?!?!
