One of the most important books ever written February 18, 2006 DelWij (Leeds, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Even if you don't read the whole of the book, simply reading the first page is enough to potentially induce a shift in your world view. I don't hold the buddhist world view in very high esteem in general and I have found from personal experience that the dogma and metaphysics of many buddhist schools can cause one to become pessimistic and even nihillistic. But this book simply cuts through all the chaff and confusion. With a voice of the most beautiful poet Nhat Hanh invites us to consider our place in the grand scheme of things and guides us gently to the understanding that we are interconnected with every other being in existence. Spirituality and ecology meet from the very first page with what can often be incerdibly penetrating insight.

The holistic nature of life - expalined beautifully. April 9, 1999 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Thich Nhat Hanh speaks from the heart. He says only what is needed. He speaks in the most comprehensible way- a way I did not imagine was possible. He is obviously not trying to prove anything that is not known. Having been on a retreat with him, I know that he writes from experience. He does not believe what he writes; he lives it, through mindful living. This book could change the way you think and live- only for the better of all.
