5 out of 5 stars Great for born again piano players   January 2, 2009

I am really enjoying working with this book, it is giving me a greater insight into the mechanics of music than I gleaned from formal piano lessons as a child. It treats me as an intelligent adult and instills confidence. A great way to take up the piano again after 50 years.

I have been playing the piano for several years on and off but only know the basics. I brought this book hoping to improve after getting to know the piano better and it has really helped me so much. I have improved so much since reading it and it is just brilliant. It teaches you how to read sheet music, goes into depth about chords and talks about improvising. It has lots of diagrams to justify the text which makes it easier to learn. There are a decent amount of song exercises and they are quite easy but a really big help towards playing harder songs. Best piano book I've read, have learned so much in little time.

First class for any beginner. Shows you notes, chords and scale structures and best of all, learns you to read music too!

1 out of 5 stars Not for proper piano playing   September 13, 2008

If you want to tap out a tune on the piano then this book is fine but not if you would like to actually be able to play the piano. If you can read music already then you will speed through this and probably not be challenged in the slightest, there is far too much writing and too little music. For learning to play with both hands and popular music there are much better books

4 out of 5 stars A really outstanding book   April 25, 2008

This is a well written book. I love playing my piano and this book has really shown me how to do it with ease.
