Be warned the descriptive text and most of the reviews here refer to the first volume of this series Rapid Italian: 200+ Essential Words and Phrases Anchored into Your Long Term Memory with Great Music (Musical Brain Trainer) which probably does contain "your survival kit of immediately useful words and phrases for your visit abroad"- the volcabulary in this volume is a bit more obscure - 7 minutes on "are you italian?" - not that useful to the avarage tourist - so mine is going back.
If you are looking for a simple Italian course worth having a look at Teach Yourself One-day Italian (TY One Day) - which is a pretty good beginers course

The language trainer is cheap, easy to use and very effective. I bought 3 different sorts of Italian language training devices after promising to stick to my new year's resolutions this time, This one being by far the best.
It covers all the basic topics you'll need for a trip to Italy. The sections are split up into different categories such as ordering food and drink, travel, numbers, shopping and other general topics you may encounter. A phrase book also comes with it to accompany the CD.
On the whole it's a great CD and a great way to start learning a new language!

Sorry but this product is not for me. I tried and tried, until I got bored with the CD. I did to be fair pick up a few words, but found the music far too loud. I think the idea is good but needs refining and even some of the lesson imbedded in the music.

I like this CD - I play it in the car and yes I agree with previous reviews - the music is cheesy.
But the repetition is good and I am actually learning Italian! Once I have finished learning this one I will
definitely be buying another if this was one of a set.
