An excellent CD course and an ideal way to learn for those who have progressed beyond the beginners level.

I completed this course after doing the foundation course. As with the foundation, you study with two students who this time are a lot brighter than the previous two. It is quite a step up as over 4 CDs you learn the past, future, imperfect and conditional tenses. With all the various combination of tenses that can be used in a sentence Michel Thomas actually guides you through 19 different 'tenses'. I have gone farther with these CDs than I ever achieved at school and if you do as he recommends and take your time, the material really does seem to stick in your head. It helps that Michel Thomas teaches you a few 'tricks' to learn the grammar. In many cases, despite being spelled differently, the spoken sound of a verb is the same for he/she/it/they so you find that you don't have to learn verbs by wrote as you may have done at school.
My only criticism is that just when you think you have got the hang of the verbs, Michel Thomas introduces the subjunctive. This verb 'mood' is used a lot more in French than English, so you really have to know it, but it just felt like this subject was a little rushed compared to the time spent on the other tenses. Still, I have enjoyed it.

I did A-level French a long time ago and this set is perfect for filling in the many, many gaps in my knowledge.
It's a really easy way to learn.

I bought this for myself but my 17 year old daughter quickly found a very good use for it for her A'level studies. This is the final in a series and, having listened to it all, I am tempted to buy the earlier versions as occasionally Michel Thomas mentions things he has spoken about in earlier lessons (for example he talks about 'the long and short box' which means nothing to me. M Thomas has a lovely French accent and his two students are excellent sidek-kicks, neither too cocky or inept they are excellent students! I have tried other language courses but this is by far the best.

The Michel Thomas tapes are absolutely fantastic. When you listen to his claims at the start of the course - that you will learn easily, without remembering, without homework - you think it's just another bogus claim to try and set the course apart from any other French method.
Having completed the courses I think these claims are actually largely accurate. Admittedly, you have to put a lot of hard work in, and listen to each tape a number of times before it sinks in, but he's right. He teaches grammar and vocabulary in a clear and clever way.
It's obvious that many hours of preparation and thought have been put in to the tapes to try and help you learn in the fastest way possible. This is the main way these courses differ from other "learn French" tapes which just make you listen and repeat lots of French phrases. Michel explains what works and why and makes up phrases to jog your memory.
The best resource I have found for learning French (and I've used many, including the Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, grammar drill books, reading kid's books in French). Highly recommended.
