I approached the Foundation Course from the position of one who was well-taught in school; I have a clear understanding of how the language works,its grammar and syntax, but lack the opportunity to develop fluency.
This foundation course is good for building confidence; Michel Thomas gives wonderful shortcuts to understanding groups of words which are related through spelling and gender, how groups of French words relate to their English equivalents, etc. These are excellent routes to cutting the thinking-time necessary to get the correct gender or word-ending while talking.
I do not know how a complete beginner would cope with this method, as I am not in that position. Because of the way I learned originally, I would find it very difficult to absorb all the information I need without some nod toward formal teaching methods, but for my purposes, for fast revision and reinforcement, this course it very good. One of the author's strengths is his method of getting the student to build quite complex sentences early on, which builds confidence.

After recently purchasing the full foundation course,i would like to recommend this product to anybody wishing to either improve or
commence learning another language.
It certainly seems to strike the right "Chords". The methodology just happens to work!
I dont know how it works but Michel Thomas had a remarkable gift for teaching (the structure or method employed seems to be quite hypnotic). I would suggest this is, perhaps why it does really work.
I would not have thought learning a language could be so much fun!
(its early days yet but having confidence in such a brilliant tutor
certainly helps)

I would highly recommend Michel Thomas as a way of learning. His voice is boring but his method is very effective.

In short this is a great way to learn the language (French this case) I put it on my iPod & works wonders. I just need a pair of noise cancelling headphones now to cut out all that tube noise which means I cannot hear the words/pronounciations correctly. This is well worth the money.
