Good way to get basic grounding August 10, 2010

This is a relatively straightforward way of learning some basic phrases and getting a grounding in their pronunciation and use. It is good for getting your muscles around some tricky (for the English) sounds, and for drilling some core vocab into the memory.
I don't fool anyone that I am not a foreigner, but I can now have some basic conversations with Poles.
The one slight quibble I have -- but I am not sure how to get around this -- is that listening to the CDs on an MP3 player, it would be helpful if there were more, shorter chapters. Often it would be helpful to repeat much shorter bits of the course over and over and over, just to get them completely nailed.
Good introduction to Polish for travellers May 30, 2010

This is a good way to learn the types of useful phrases that someone travelling to Poland might want to know. This is a good way to learn some key phrases quickly, but as Polish is such a complicated language to learn, you can't really adapt the phrases that you learn with the CD into other phrases as the endings of many of the words change depending on what you are saying... yeah Polish is complicated...
It is useful to have a booklet and a CD so that you can look at how words are spelt and hear them being said at the same time. I tend to write the words out phonetically in the margin in the booklet next to the proper spelling to help me remember pronunciation, as Polish words look nothing like how they sound! The voices on the CD are nice and clear and it is well structured with reviews at the end of each section.
So to sum up, a good way to learn some useful Polish phrases quickly and relatively easily! :)

This is a concise, useful introduction to the Polish language, covering the topics of basic conversation, shopping, eating out, finding the way, money, booking into hotels etc.
It comes with a set of CDs which are very helpful in getting used to the pronunciation. The course is very straightforward, easy to follow, with clear instructions and an interesting and sometimes huhorous commentary.

The Easy Learning Polish course is nicely paced and the spoken audio is much clearer than a lot of language courses. There are a lot of new sounds in Polish to get your head around (it often sounds like somebody impersonating a chainsaw to the untrained English ear) so the way new words are clearly enunciated on the audio is very important. Though I've not yet had a chance to test my new-found skills in Poland yet, the course has so far given me enough confidence to impress my Polish business partners with basic greetings pleasantries.
