Blood Ties by Sophie Mckenzie is a great book because of the brilliant plot and pace of the book. This book is a thriller. The book is about a boy called Theo and a girl called Rachel who are the main characters. The book flows really well and the book is brilliantly thought out. At first they do not know each other but as the story develops they meet as Theo wants to learn more about his father. This puts them in danger because of the importance they mean to someone this is where the adventures begin. Rachel is the kind of person who is extremely nervous and conscious of herself she is also quite shy. This may be explained because she is bullied because of her size. She also seems to live in the shadow of her sister Rebecca who died at the age of 12. Rachel is aware that her parents make many comparisons between her and her sister which makes her feel more depressed. Rachel thinking badly of herself throughout the book is obvious. The one thing that I don't like about the book is that there is not much descriptive language. If this book had more descriptive writing it would be a near perfect book.
Brilliant! August 19, 2008 CullenismIsTheFuture 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This a brilliant book for any teenager, male or female! I finished it in 2 days because I couldn't put it down! As it changes between the points of view of Theo and Rachel for each chapter, it makes it fast-paced and every chapter finishes with a cliffhanger! I really liked the relationship between the leads, struggling with there feelings for the other. One of the best thrillers I've read in ages! 10/10!
Another fast-paced thriller July 26, 2008 Caroline Lawrence (London, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved it! Couldn't put it down. I especially liked the transformation of the dowdy girl into an empowered beauty. With alternating viewpoints between the boy and girl protagonists, this book is perfect for kids of either gender.
