5 out of 5 stars A great read   January 2, 2009

This book is exciting, gory and funny. One of the best books I've read in a while, it's like a cross between Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn. The kind of book that's hard to put down and when you're done you pass it on to a friend... or five.

Worst book I've read in a long time. Terribly written and all over the place plot-wise. Avoid!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good but bad at the same time.   December 4, 2008

I have to say I was really unsure about ordering this book due to the mixed reviews, after reading this I have to agree, the book is badly written with little detail and ref to films often instead of using an original idea. However I LOVED THIS BOOK the whole time I could not put the book down I needed to know what would happen next, I was guessing all the way to the end but had no idea why or what I was guessing, I often made guesses on who was the bad guy and had no idea if there even was one. I really did like this book I just wish it had been written better.
If you are unsure like I was I would give it a go, you will love it of hate it I think.

5 out of 5 stars Out of character - But out of this world!   November 25, 2008

For someone who's usual reading fodder is historical biogs, this was a bit of a Way Out West choice.. but I've got to tell you, if you can suspend belief, and let the book take you on a ride, it's well worth it! Is it a bit gory? Yup. Is it all a bit unnecessary? Absolutely. Is it a 'demolish it in a day' read? You bet!! I cringed, laughed out loud, was crossed and double crossed by the characters, and adored every page. Buy the sequel at the same time - you won't want to wait for it once you've read The Book With No Name!

2 out of 5 stars I'm surprised this got published.   November 16, 2008

The Book with no Name fails to live up to it's dubious hype. No wonder the author wants to remain anonymous - the writing is very poor, the plot is juvenile and half-baked and the characters are unconvincing. I like both plot-driven and character-driven books but this is neither it just stumbles around and disappoints at every turn. If only the minimal sex references and maybe some of the strong language had been removed TBWNN would have been an acceptable book for young teens (actually, it might well have been written by a teenager). While trying to be zany and stylised it's just hackneyed and awkward. There's nothing new here and it's all been done better before. Only out of morbid curiosity did I keep reading to the stupid end. Not even gratuitous violence and swearing manages to redeem this book, it's just really really bad. EPIC FAIL, DON'T READ.
