There's a lot here; perhaps too much for some! November 18, 2008 Alan Bridges (London, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The story that Esther and Jerry Hicks have to tell is truly a remarkable one. Jerry was always interested in spirituality and all that was out there. But his wife wanted absolutely nothing to do with his explorations into the non-physical. Oh, how all of that was to change. Without revealing too much of their journey, suffice it to say that she changed her tune - and by quite a bit. You see, Esther has become a channel for a disincarnate being called Abraham. His teachings, through her, have become the basis for a series of books by the Hickses. In The Law of Attraction, Abraham explains this simple but profound universal principle. With its practical and deliberate application, we can learn to bring into our lives what we want and release that which we don't want. Now, you might be tempted to lump this book with all the others on the law of attraction on the shelves these days. But that would be a mistake. There's a lot to this book. You might say that at times it can get quite heavy. And I wouldn't recommend trying to read it in one sitting. You'll need to take your time with this one. The book is laid out in a question-and-answer format, which makes it easier for the reader to digest but also gives credence to the premise that Jerry's questions are being answered by someone who is being channelled through Esther. If you are ready to delve into the theory and mechanics of what most books only introduce, then try The Law of Attraction. But be warned, this is not a fuzzy cover picture-book for the casual reader.
heavy at times, but worthy of any book shelf September 14, 2008 Marshmallow (Croydon, UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I agree, not quite as worthy as `Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desiresby the same married couple of Esther and Jerry Hicks. This is a tad heavy at times and yet I still did like many parts of it. I do wish they had fully proofed this into English grammar from the Americanised twang, but it overcomes this with the spirit of good intention. I do not agree with the concept that what you have is what you deserved to get, as it reflects poorly on what is really meant. We attract what we think, and this book goes into great detail about that.
The law of attraction explained August 30, 2008 Mr. S. Heap 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved this book, as it gives a practical understanding of the Law of Attraction' & it isn't as fluffy as 'The Secret'. For maximum results read this book with 'Ask & It Is Given' which is also by Jerry & Esther Hicks.
It's no accident that you're reading this August 14, 2008 Susan E. Finch 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I loved this book. Ester and Jerry Hicks are a married couple who work together to give the world the wisdom of Abraham, spirit guides that Ester channels. Jerry poses the questions and Ester channels Abraham's answers. Abraham reveals that there are three universal laws which are all based on the belief that our thoughts create our reality. One of the laws I related to in particular was that of "intention". This law says our thoughts, combined with our emotions, have the power to affect our environment. This means we can choose to truly assist and uplift each other. Abraham speaks of living fully in the moment in order to create the future we desire and that combing through our past doesn't enhance our present or future. As someone who spent years in therapy re-hashing the past without living a full and satisfying life, I totally agree. Another book that speaks about living a full and satisfying life by living in the now is How To Create a Magical Relationship by Ariel and Shya Kane. I found this enjoyable and profound book to be a wonderful complement to The Law of Attraction. The Kanes believe each one of us has stories about ourselves, a past that colors our present and future. If we can free ourselves from our past by being present, we can discover that each moment is fresh with infinite, glorious possibility. This includes caring for others and our environment. After reading their book I truly felt that what I do and think does indeed matter. We are creatures who have the power to create a magical life for ourselves. What a wonderful place to start giving to others from!
Buy "Ask and it is given" instead July 26, 2008 Benedictus (London, UK) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you want to buy only one book of the Hicks tandem, I suggest "ask and it is given" instead. This one is more an expansion which does not bring any new prospective. I would suggest the purchase only if you are one of those persons (like me) who like reading the same things said in a different way and don't mind spending a bit more to do it. I would suggest that the reader also brings his own Christian prospective in this books; if one leaves it aside it is amazing how many people (as easily verifiable on the internet) abuse of these books to delude themselves into being omnipotent beings or into justifying their every childish tendency. Still: correctly understood and put in their right prospective, the book makes for an interesting reading and an integration to "Ask and it is given"
