1 out of 5 stars Economics   January 6, 2009

Is this an economics book?
We seem to be in a situation where apparently there are people who want things. This is pretty normal. Often economics is described as the study of unlimited wants in the fact of limited resources. In this case individuals make choices based on their constraints to maximise utility. Adam Smith should have just realised that if you just wanted something you would get it. It was not the benevolence of the baker which provided your bread it was because you manifested your desires in order to get him to make bread. This makes more sense than economics. Economics relies on the key assumption of individual rationality. While books like this exist (and those on cosmic ordering - you know who you are) it is clear that plenty of people are not rational.

5 out of 5 stars The best book ever   December 30, 2008

I could actually give this book 10 stars. It is the best book on the law of attraction and believe me, I have read quite a few of these type of books over the years. But this one it really changed my life in many ways because it explains the law of attraction so well and in detail that I do find it so easy now to apply the law to everything. It is about directing your attention to the things you want in your life and dismissing thoughts about what you don't want. It is difficult in the beginning as we are used to concentrate on what we lack and feeling sorry and miserable, but with a little practice you start to recognize which thoughts you should entertain in your mind and which ones you shouldn't. The thought produces the emotion and the emotion creates the vibrational frequency, which will attract the matching vibration and experience from the universe. So there you are, if you have thoughts of the things you want, those are the things you will attract. The second part of the book is also very useful as it gives techniques on how to change our emotional states. It is also stated that if you have been feeling depressed, miserable or angry you can't jump from feeling that way to then feeling joy and gratitude because the vibrational frequency is very different. So there is a wide range of emotions in between that you can go through first in order to achieve a genuine state of happiness. Basically you work your way through from the bottom to the top in a gradual way, but believe me it really works! I also watched their posted videos from their seminars on youtube, which also helped. Happy manifesting!

5 out of 5 stars Quite simply - a radical insight into how to think   December 13, 2008

Well, where do I start...? 'Ask and It Is Given' is really a manual about how to think properly and how to use the law of attraction to achieve your goals. Yes, there are many who will scoff, but for me it's a bit like Mathematics - we believe in the universal laws which we can see and quantify (e.g. angles, shapes, trigonometry, vectors, calculus etc) so why do we have such a problem in trying to understand those universal laws which we can't see or easily quantify? This is what the Abraham teachings are about - gaining an understanding of how, through universal laws, dominant thoughts can become physical realities if only you will allow them to do so.

That's the thing about the law of attraction - it's so simple, yet it's also potentially so hard due to our internal patterns of resistance, limiting beliefs, comfort zones and, in many cases, an actual deep-down fear of success.

This is radical stuff and a number of spin-offs are out there based on the Abraham insights.

Note that you won't read this book in a night or two and, in fact, I wouldn't recommend that you do so. Take your time with it and read it over a long period of time, then go back to it again.

The affirmation at the beginning of the book is worth the cover price alone - it puts all other affirmations in the shade.

5 out of 5 stars Things that make you go hmmmm.   October 8, 2008

I looked at this book because I heard a lot about it and wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was all about. My first clue that this book was a horse of a different color was when I found it in the "metaphysical" section of the bookstore.

I have to be honest though, I never made it through the whole book. It centers around this "spirit" called Abraham and all the advice and teaching it gave to the authors.

Definitely for the "New Age" crowd, if this kind of thing interests you, then for the type of book that it is, its a good one. The book has 22 sections, whose purpose is to help you achieve your goals in life by asking you some reflective types of questions- which I did find motivating. Although not my cup of tea, the book is quite popular and I can recommend it to anyone looking for something different and inspiring. For readers who like more conventional books in the self-help genre, I recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator.

4 out of 5 stars A book everyone should read at least once ideally daily   September 25, 2008

I bought this book about 2 years ago. It has helped me on many occasions when my spirits have been low and lifted them. Taught me there is hope and it can be of your own making.
I have also found it of use when explaining things to my teenage daughters.
I highly recommend it. It's very American, but if we Brits can get over that it makes interesting reading.
