I can handle it. January 3, 2009 Bacon Sarnie (Sinking Slowly) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"I can handle it." is the affirmation that the author suggests we repeat when feeling challenged. That's about it as far as her techniques go. The remainder is filled with encouraging stories, which are nice but not as inspirational as the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. I wanted lots of methods to displace fear rather than pages of moral support. However, I do believe that the author is sincere in trying to help, despite the lack of practical exercises.
the most life transforming, mind-freeing book u can read! December 29, 2008 A. Meer this book is awesome. It made me think differently about me, the way my mind works, the people I surround myself with and the wider world. Through the rational thought, logical analysis and practical exercises as well as wicked examples that I could totally relate to, Susan Jefferies changes my thought patterns and abilities for critical reflection/ analytical insight and gives me the confidence and ability to have trust in my judgement and belief in myself as well change what I don't like and realize what I do. BUY IT!!!!
Out of my way! Here I come!!! December 15, 2008 Wimmelchen (Birmingham) I have never written a review, but I am feeling compelled to write one for this book. I have read lots of self-help books but not one has touched me and affected me like this one. It is written in a very kind and understanding way without ever being patronising. It has helped me find a sense of peace within myself - something I never thought possible. My outlook on life has changed completely and it couldn't have come at a better time (I'm just being made redundant, credit crunch, new house etc!). I am now able to see challenges as opportunities and I have grown more in the last 3 short weeks, than I have in the past 7 years (I'm starting my own business). For anyone who suffers from stress, anxieties and depression, this is a must read. But don't be fooled, you need to want to change to make it happen. This book will show how to.
Oh dear !! November 24, 2008 Foxylock (Ireland) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm going against the grain here but I feel strongly about this particular book. I genuinely think that Susan Jeffers is trivialising peoples fear here, there is the big question that springs to my mind immediately,How much fear has this woman actually felt ? Does this woman know what its like to be paralysed by fear and anxiety ?.And if she does then does it not appear somewhat callous to say to someone "Feel the fear and do it anyway "?. Has anyone out there used the pain to power chart ? Does it work ? I don't think so. I will not make apologies for my cynicism however if this book has a positive impact on your life then good for you. Frankly it left me feeling a little raw.
A genuine classic - you'll return to it again and again. September 25, 2008 Book Worm DJ (UK) This was the first 'pop psychology' book I ever bought, and it's a well-thumbed classic. Upbeat and practical, it's helpful for changing your mindset as well as your habits. A good mix of psychobabble and practical exercises. I found it especially helpful when leaving university, and having to make what felt like big choices about what to do next. The book helped me realise that all my choices could be positive and made me feel less afraid of missing out on something.
