4 out of 5 stars Well what can I say? Another Guiness World Record Book   January 2, 2009
MusicMan (Brighton, UK)
Well what can I say? It's just another Guiness World Record book no different to all the other years. There is no mistaking that it is a funny book to read as I have found in all of the GWR books, half of their content is stupid records like: the heaviest weight held by a beard; fastest time to slurp ten panacottas the list is endless. But at least there is something usefull and educational in this book like the science and health sections.
I have also found that 3D glasses come with this book. For some of the pictures they actually do work and make the book come alive however, on some other pictures they don't make any difference but maybe that is because our eyes are different?
Overall, I would recommend this book to people of all ages. It is not a page turner however, you can pick it up and have a look if you want to find out a weird fact or just make yourself giggle at the stupidity of some of the records in there. :)

4 out of 5 stars How many more records will we keep breaking   January 1, 2009

I received the new copy as a Christmas present in 2008, I do love the Guinness world records but that is mainly as I like to use them for reference points in conversation. I am pleased to see that the book is still focused towards the younger market, I believe this is a good idea as many children now spend most of their time excelling at computer games and do not spend as much time reading literature, this book makes it interesting for the younger generations and should keep them interested in the book as it has many pictures on all of the pages and small chunks of text.

I love to have this book in my cabinet and I hope you do too, yes I understand its not everyone's cup of tea but if you have a spare 5 minutes before picking the kids up from school or whilst drinking a cuppa, its worth picking it up and having a look some parts will make you laugh.

The book features records and facts from so many interesting areas that I really do feel that this book can be enjoyed by all of the family and being as the text is in small sections it is easy to digest and memorize for later use. So if you have the spare cash for the book then I really would recommend buying it. You may be surprised at how many records have been broken since you read a Guinness world record as a kid.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and Educational   December 26, 2008

I have always loved the GWR Books, however this is the first Christmas I have ever received one of my own. I like the GWR Books because not only is it interesting to see what records have been broken, and what records you could beat, come on we all wonder if we can beat a record or create a new one at some point. Am thinking of a few right now. Anyway, the GWR Book this year contains a lot of educational information on space, dinosaurs and the Human Body with diseases and other health related stuff.

And let's not forget the 3D images in this book.

I always like reading GWR books. They generally are alot of fun and very interesting!
I especially liked this one as it has very cool 3D images. It comes with a pair of glasses which you have to put together yourself.
There's loads of interesting facts in it and I can spend hours reading it.
Somehow, no matter how many times you go through the pages and keep going through them, you always learn something new!

4 out of 5 stars Time-honoured favourite - but no 3D specs   December 13, 2008

My parents had one edition from the early 70's and naturally the layout differs greatly between that old tome and the new version. I've seen quite a few since but I'm not sure I like this up to date one. Yes, there are plenty of facts and figures but I feel they rather jump all across the page in no order so it can be annoying to keep track of what you've read. I feel Guinness are going more for the eye-catching graphics
than some imagined bore of the printed word in an ordinary font.

This is a small gripe, as is my complaint about no 3D specs being included, despite the promise. As this book is for a young relative, I'm knocking a star off on her behalf, although the book itself still reveals some amazing info that should fascinate her.

Interesting point - the 1972 version of the GBoR has a rather quirky and completely unprovable "Most Durable Haunting".
