 Excellent Production, mixed bag of stories May 30, 2008

The dramatisations and the cast are as excellent as they are throughout this BBC series. The stories are somewhat uneven though. The Speckled Band, a favourite of the author himself, is classic Sherlock Holmes. Five Orange Pips, er, isn't.
However, Merrison and Williams make even the lamest stuff work. Well worth listening to.

This is the 4th cassette in a series of 18 of the BBC Radio dramatised adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The stories included are; the five orange pips, the man with the twisted lip, the adventure of the blue carbuncle and the adventure of the speckled band. These four stories are amongst the best penned by Doyle and is even better due to the excellent Holmes played by Clive Merrison and just as good Watson played by Michael Williams. Definitely the best audio adaptations of these stories due to the scripts and the actors. Would highly recommend these to Sherlock Holmes novices and fans alike. Great listening and immense fun.
