| Customer Reviews: Don't be tempted by the Audible download above December 13, 2009 P. Dunbar (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think this is one of the funniest series on Radio, but others have already said that. I would just like to point out the dangers of buying from Audible.co.uk via the download link further up the page, as I have foolishly done.
If you buy the CD from Amazon, you have complete control over when an where you can listen to your purchase and you can easily put it on whatever device you want to use to listen to it.
If however, you buy it from Audible.co.uk via the download link, they completely control both the access to what you have just paid for and they also censor any reviews you leave on Audible.co.uk. You can only put it on an iPod, or one of a tiny handful of mobile devices. You can burn a CD, but you actually have to burn the physical disk, and then you don't get tracks that correspond to the content. You can't burn an MP3 disk so that it will all fit on one disk, but you end up with 3 CD format disks that bear no relation to the episodes.
You have been warned.
Devilishly good May 22, 2009 J. Sharman 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Andy Hamilton on as good a form as ever. Cannot wait to hear how Gabriel gets on in Hell. Bring on Vol 8, and more. About time Vol's 3 and 4 were made available
Funniest UK Radio Series running May 14, 2009 A. Cummins (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Andy Hamilton inverts our usual view of the world and presents
the situation of a much-maligned Satan, struggling to properly
administer hell in a universe where God seems to have
has lost interest in his creation and the wheels are regularly
falling off the cart of cosmic-order.
Assisted in him in this task are Scumspawn, a soft-hearted and headed
demon, Thomas an extremely venal damned soul, Edith the sharp-tongued
historian and a cast of bit parts ranging from the Archangel Gabriel,
Baby Patrick to the Almighty himself.
He manages to be both amusing and pertinent, challenging religeous
mores and concepts without being offensive. All this done in an extremely
droll and dry fashion.
Simply the most consistently funny series on UK radio.
This is hell, not Jim'll Fix It! April 18, 2009 Julie Cutler (Coventry) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have to say that I was very impressed with this series- hot off the press (so to speak) in 2009. In these sad times, a bit of contemporary sniping at bankers who don't think they will suffer eternal retribution (well they get away with everything else) and the Home Office losing a hard drive with confidential information..is handled with sharpened wit. It'll be something to look back on with affection, when everyone starts behaving sensibly!
Something is going horribly wrong in hell- heaven has installed new software and a baby and a dog unexpectedly turn up for eternal damnation. God's off on a sabbatical and has delegated power to some angels who refuse to take any decisions. The usual gang of Edith the Historian, Scumspawn the devil and Thomas the repulsive, nag Satan that he ought to make sure that two innocents get restored to life, even if the dog keeps thinking the Lord of Hell is a tree. Plagued by Joan of Arc's rebellion and a confident Russian businessman, who tries to bribe Satan, it doesn't look as though Satan is ever going to get a glowing biography written for him, even if he is becoming a dab hand at creating compromising pictures in Photoshop (I thought all the problems I had with CS3 under Vista must have diabolical origins). How will he persuade the Almighty to rectify things, without getting damned again?
This was utterly delicious- can we have the full versions of series 3 and 4, please?!
laughter all the way March 3, 2009 Nima (near newton abbot, devon United Kingdom) 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
I never get tired of listening to "Old Harry's Game" If only it were true that hell is as funny as this then we'd all have something to look forward to???
