Katherine The Great October 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had the pleasure of spending the last 3 weeks in the company of the delightful Katherine Jenkins...well,almost.I've been reading and then re-reading a chapter each day of this lovely autobiography.I recommend others to do the same-for it is an experience that deserves not to be galloped through but to be savoured. This book is proof,if any were needed, that there is far more to Katherine than a beautiful woman with an amazing singing talent. Her story is written with honesty, openness and good-humour.Its all here-how a gifted choir girl blossomed into today's singing sensation.Katherine never takes her success for granted. She remains full of wonder and amazement at her meteoric rise and the experiences it has brought her-from meeting royalty to singing with Placido Domingo, from entertaining the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to being the most successful female classical recording artist in history. Fame, unlike with so many others, has not spoiled her character. She remains dedicated to her religious faith, her family and friends and never forgets those who have helped her along the way.Vivacious is a word which might have been invented to describe her and her charm cannot fail to warm the heart of any fair-minded reader. Katherine, for all her achievements, has known heartache and loss. And she has had life-threatening experiences. She describes all with candour and integrity. One can only admire how she has come to terms with such events. They play a part in shaping the strong, determined, yet thoughtful and compassionate lady she is today. My only criticism of the book is a minor one. There are some errors in the dating of events which would have been avoided by a closer proof reading. To conclude,if you are already a fan,you will enjoy this book immensely. If you are merely curious, buy this book and get more acquainted with the lovely Katherine.Your life will be all the richer for it!
"To be continued....." January 30, 2008 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
This morning I received the book and finished reading 20 minutes ago. The book ends in Katherine's own words:I can only say, in those time-honoured words: "To be continued...", so we can expect a follow-up. This hard-working lady has written her biography in an entertaining and professional way, which was to be expected from this determined mezzo soprano. Very informative, sad in places, jubilant in others, adventures, affection for friends and family with extremely close family ties, private in a way, not afraid in doing something different, a good sense of humor, very down to earth and full with positive thoughts of a very compassionate lady, hence the reason of being the "Forces Sweetheart". This book is written in Katherine's own uplifting non-selfish style and despite this "Crossover Syndrome", which to me is an expression for an allround singer, able to sing classical and popular, still determined to reach her goal of being an opera singer as was intented from the outset. In my estimation she will be a "Diva", and no doubt will sing the most beautiful arias as a mezzo soprano in an opera and a force to be reckoned with. The talent is there, as one can read in the book, most of the groundwork and world-wide popularity is done, got her own show (Kathfest), so probably the continuation of her autobiography will be: "Time to say Goodbye" or "Katherine Jenkins - Memoirs". An objective and honest book written from the heart and well worth purchasing if it was only for the cheer determination walking the path in reaching one's goal !!
I can't wait for this book to be published August 20, 2006 2 out of 14 found this review helpful
It's difficult to review a book before reading it, however Katherine's story will be inspirational to many readers. Katherine has worked hard for her sucesss and remains down to earth, she always had time for her fans and treats us like her friends and family.
I don't doubt that Katherine's autobiography will be a very entertaining read, The public performance of her songs often outshines her recorded work due to her stage presence and the enthusiasm of the crowd, I can't wait for this book to be published.
