Okay, you don't want to be reading much type here as you'll want to save those eyes for what is the best novel that I have ever read. Just buy it, read it and enjoy it. It's is ace.

I read this book in about 2 weeks after having previously resisted buying it due to it's reputation of being hard/boring/worthy etc, but decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Basically, if you read it as though you're going to write an essay on it then you'll miss out on the grand soap opera of the characters lives which I found fascinating. Obviously the book has some really interesting things to say about society but that aside, it's a really good story and I loved it.

I needed a retirement present for a friend/colleague and regular ones are sooo boring! My husband suggested this book and I chose hardback as it is a classic. The book arrived exactly on the time stated and in perfect condition. Having read the preface I may well buy a copy for myself...never had any idea before what War & Peace was really about!

I read "War and Peace" on a 3-day train journey from Montreal to Vancouver half a century ago. My budding anthropologist son is now reading it in a Uganda rain forest in between 'chasing chimpanzees'. He speaks highly of the merits of the fairly recent translation.
