Wont put down September 3, 2010 heavenly Angel As soon as I started to read this little gem I could not put it down. All housework suffered and even called in sick to work on the Monday so I could snuggle under the duvet and finish in total peace and quiet. Was really sad when finished as I had got into the characters so much I did not ever want to finish. Only solution, pick up another Martina Cole straight away. This book is brilliantly written and will have you hooked from first page. Enjoy!
Brilliant storytelling June 20, 2010 trendytracey (London) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a read - the world of Freddie Jackson and fellow Laaandaaan gangsters is relentless and graphic....and fascinating. I followed Freddie's fall from grace, Jackie's sad deterioration, Maggie's heartbreak and Jimmy's rising star with baited breath and clenched fists, all on the edge of my seat! Never read anything by Martina Cole before, but what a good place to start.
Fantastic.
Hit and Miss May 4, 2010 C. Jackson 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There is a lot of good things about this book and the people who have given this one star have been very harsh. However if you are looking for the great crime caper bank job type story then this is not it. Quite simply this book is about a family destroid by one man, while living in the underworld of London crime and Cole does a good job dealing with several generations of the Jackson family.
The only issue I have with this book is it is around 150 pages too long, Cole covers a lot of the same things over and over again, such as Jackie's drinking problems. She also gives a lot of detail about characters that is not required i.e. Glenford.
Overall this book is OK, don't listen to the extream views of the people giving it 5 or 1 star.
Couldn't put it down! March 8, 2010 C. Cook (Norwich, England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Absolutely excellent book. I've never read any of her books before and this was a gift. I read it in one weekend as I really couldn't put it down. It is full of violence and explicit language but it's definately in context. A must read! I'm now going to work my way through Cole's other books!
