If you are a fan, get this book. September 24, 2009 M. Anthony I really like Gordan Ramsey and all his shows and I was intrigued to read a book about his life. As he is in real life, he is also on the page. He is in your face, cursing and yet still, somehow, mystifying. This is one of the better books on celebs I've read and I will read more of his work. So glad I gave it the chance. The man is a true visionaire.
Superb ! August 1, 2009 Mr. George Macduff (Glasgow) As usual with GR he's frank, to the point and brutally honest.
What really surprised me was his customer service outlook.
Every company should try and adopt his customer service outlook and values.
The power of recovery in customer service in business is often overlooked and can lose them so much business.
Humble Pie April 27, 2009 Warren Yeo (UK) He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think you have to admire anyone with this much drive and determination. There are many rags to riches tales and no doubt some of them a far more harrowing and far reaching than Gordon's - but this is still a story of how perseverance can bring you the rewards you desire. From a humble background he set out to make his name and fortune, and nobody can deny that is exactly what he's acheived. The fact he continues to strive for more says a lot about the man, and the book gives an insite in what drives him. There's no doubt I would hate to work for this man in one of his kitchens, but I completely respect what he's done and how he has made his business a flourishing success in the way he works and behaves.
Could not put this book down March 29, 2009 Ms. Deborah L. Walker I found this book great, i could not put it down. Anyone who finds Gorden a bit on the arrogant side should read this book. It sure makes you realise nothing comes easy in life. A very interesting read.
DEFINITELY A TYPE "A" PERSONALITY... March 2, 2009 Lawyeraau (Balmoral Castle) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been a big fan of Gordon Ramsey's televisions shows, "Hell's Kitchen", "Kitchen Nightmare's", and "The F Word". When I saw this book, I knew I wanted to read it to get to know more about my favorite television chef. Well, the amazing thing is that I actually believe that he wrote this book himself, as he sounds just as he does on television. His personality just jumps out at the reader from the pages of this book.
That being said, this book is really a brief biography of his life to date. It has definitely been a hardscrabble life until the past few years, when his hard work finally paid off. Brought up in dire poverty in a totally dysfunctional family with an abusive, alcoholic father, it is amazing to see the success he has made of himself. Gordon paints a candid portrait of himself, and what comes across is a somewhat oafish, hardworking, intelligent and driven individual with some very set ideas and exacting standards. He is definitely a control freak, albeit a likeable one.
Those readers who enjoy his shows will most definitely enjoy this book, which is a very easy and quick read. The reader will marvel at the obstacles this passionate man has overcome to reach the pinnacle of success that he has. What one sees on television is what one gets in this book. So, be prepared for some coarse language and a somewhat inelegant writing style, as well as a very frank portrait of one of today's premier chefs.
