Unlike the other review we love this! It's solely a playful vocabulary builder and does not, as the other review points out, put any words into context.
What you get is a colourful picture book with a cd. Each picture is under a different heading (eg: vehicles, animals, household objects, pastimes) and nouns within the pictures are labelled. The CD introduces each page of the book simply by it's heading and then you HEAR each item/nouns followed by it's French name (the same male voice throughout).
We recorded our CD onto tape for the car and it's been a big hit (with children from 2 - 9.5). We try and second guess what the item is (fire engine, police car, train? Duck, cat, Sheep? Hair dryer, coffee maker, kettle?) and all of us joinin repeating its name in French. [Incidentally, it has always entertained our toddler easy peasy!]
The sounds are very clearly recorded. There's no confusion over where one ends and another begins. The French words are pronounced such that you can truly hear what is being said. And there is loads on here.
I think it was a fabulous chance buy this.
You won't learn French phrases but you and your children will easily acquire useful everyday vocabulary in a light hearted way.

I brought this book to help my 7 year old niece with her French but unfortunately this book was the wrong choice. It is basically a picture book stating the nouns. The accompanying CD would for example have the sound of a cow and cow (in french) will be repeated twice. This book doesn't put the words into the context of a sentance and so I don't think the words will be remembered. It doesn't even have basic things like numbers, colours and greetings.
